Rotherham snooker pro Ashley Carty is back on the baize this weekend as live tournament snooker returns to TV.

Carty, 24, is one of 64-players taking part in the new-look Championship League which is being broadcast live on ITV, bringing world-class sport back to living rooms nationwide.

The event is taking place behind closed doors at Marshall Arena, Milton Keynes with strict rules on social distancing, COVID testing and hygiene in place, in line with government guidelines. Marshall Arena has been selected as the venue as it has an on-site accommodation meaning no players, officials or staff will need to leave the venue once they have entered.

The Thurcroft potter, who is ranked 83rd in the world, lines-up in the same group as former World Champion Neil Robertson, “Crafty” Ken Doherty and Kurt Maflin. The first round matchups will be shown live on Sunday.

Ashley, who only turned professional in 2018, was in good form before the lockdown with the highlight being a “shoot-out” win against three-time World Champion Mark Williams in February.

The Money Group is sponsoring Ashley, who was the English Under-21 champion aged only 16, and they recently met up for a discussion on YouTube.
