Wath’s new Royal British Legion branch has been launched by Wentworth and Dearne MP, John Healey.
The Shadow Defence Secretary joined the group at their first coffee morning event at St James’ Tea Rooms.
The Royal British Legion provides financial, social and emotional care and support to all members of the British Armed Forces – past and present and their families.
John said “It was a real honour to launch the new Royal British Legion branch in Wath and it was great to see plenty of cheerful faces.
“Whilst we associate the Legion with the national poppy appeal, the real heart of the organisation is local groups and the volunteers that work in communities on a day to day basis.
“Events such as coffee mornings help to recreate the camaraderie of the forces and provide support for veterans and their families – that’s why the organisation is still going strong after 100 years.
“It’s inspiring to see the British Legion opening new branches like this with such an active membership, but the group is also actively looking for volunteers to help out and I would encourage anyone thinking of getting involved to get in touch with them.”
Wath upon Dearne Royal British Legion meet on the last Thursday of every month at the Westville WMC.
The group also holds a coffee morning on the last Saturday of every month at St James’ Tea Rooms with the next get together scheduled to take place on St George’s Day, Saturday 23rd April.
