Excitement is building up for UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 with the draw taking place this week setting out the path to glory for the qualified teams.
The Women’s European Championships is being held in England from 6 – 31 July 2022, with Rotherham as one of the nine host cities. The best female players in Europe will join football fans from across the globe in Rotherham for three group games (10 July, 14 July and 18 July), as well as the quarter-final on 23 July.
England and the rest of the competing nations will find out their group stage opponents when the draw is made on Thursday 28 October.
The qualified teams are Austria, Belgium, England (hosts), Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy,
Netherlands (holders), Northern Ireland, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
Group D is the one to watch as the matches in this group will be shared between Rotherham United’s New York Stadium and at Manchester City’s Academy. Keep one eye on Group C as the quarter-final in Rotherham will see the winner of Group D face the runner-up in Group C.
It has already been decided that England will play in Group A, but Rotherham’s group will definitely have one of the other top seeds – either Netherlands, Germany or France.
To celebrate the live draw and to find out which teams will be coming to Rotherham, members of the football family – players, coaches, referees and fans – are being invited to the New York Stadium to watch the live draw together.
The event will run from 4pm – 7.30pm on October 28, with talks from local football legends, a football quiz, information on how to get involved – whether that be playing football, refereeing or maybe volunteering at the tournament itself – plus there will be some light refreshments with the bar open to purchase drinks.
A limited number of tickets are available for this FREE event. To book through Eventbrite, go to www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/28th-october-womens-euro-live-draw-new-york-stadium-rotherham-tickets-173586360477
