With the reopening of Rotherham Civic Theatre not scheduled until Spring 2021, operators continue to bring live entertainment to the borough.
Rotherham has joined together in the initiative called Your Place Comedy, to support small, independent venues across the north of England. Comedy broadcasts are free to watch, with an option to donate to the ten small, independent venues funding Your Place Comedy.
On Sunday August 30 at 8pm, the fourth gig features multi-award winning star of The Chase, and BBC TV and radio regular, Paul Sinha, alongside Radio 4 News Quiz host and frequent Mock the Week panellist, Anegla Barnes, for another free live streamed show hosted by resident Your Place Comedy compere, Tim FitzHigham, on what should have been the closing weekend of the world famous Edinburgh Festival.
Any money raised will be distributed equally between Barton-upon-Humber Ropewalk, Carriageworks Theatre, East Riding Theatre, Goole Junction, Helmsley Arts Centre, Howden Shire Hall, Otley Courthouse, Pocklington Arts Centre, Rotherham Theatres and Selby Town Hall, each of whom has put up funds to finance this project, supporting performers and audiences in challenging circumstances.
The link for the show will be available on the Your Place Comedy website here.
Having looked at Government guidance, Rotherham Theatres worked out that it would effectively mean that the auditorium could only accommodate 10% of its usual capacity, so reopening at this time would not be viable.
